Biology Geographic Information Systems

The Biology Geographic Information Systems (GIS) graduate certificate provides the specialized education and training that students need to understand GIS methodology and technology as applied to diverse fields of the biological sciences. This certificate is intended to prepare graduates to meet the growing demand for GIS skills in the biological sciences, both in academic research and other employment.

The certificate is an option only for students with graduate standing in the Ph.D. and M.S. programs, including all sequences, in the School of Biological Sciences.

University Admission Requirements

A student applying to a graduate certificate program must:

  • have earned a four-year bachelor's degree or its equivalent from a college or university that is accredited by the appropriate regional accrediting association, or do so within one academic year

Additional Program Admission Requirements

A student applying to this program must:

  • have already been admitted to the master's or doctoral program in Biology
  • have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for either the last 60 hours of your undergraduate coursework or any previous work in a mnaster's program
