The outer edge of a mangrove forest forms the margin of an estuarine mud flat in Thailand. Although numerous seedlings take root upon the mudflat beyond the forest margin, the depth of the water may be too great for permanent establishment of the trees. However, since the mangroves trap sediments, they may help create new habitat for themselves.
