Field Trip Lodging
Accomodations at La Selva Biological Field Station
Cabinas & Guesthouses
The primary accomodations will be in cabinas, a series of adjoining rooms opening onto a veranda. Each room can hold up to 6 people (3 bunk beds) and each two rooms share a bathroom. At times guest houses are available that can accomodate 4-5 adults in two bedrooms, with a living/dining area. Accomodations will vary Depending upon the number of travellers, their gender, and their relationship to each other.
Meals
Three meals a day are provided cafeteria style. The food is good, not great, basic costa rican fare, which is not spicy (darn!). Vegetarian dishes are provided if you so indicate this dietary preference. Black beans and rice are the staples anyways.
San Jose
On the way in and out a night is spent in San Jose. We usually book the Best Western DownTown, which is conveniently located, and a very nice, very reasonably priced hotel.
It is located at Avenida siete (7), between Calle seis & ocho (6 & 8), tel 506-255-4766, fax 506-255-4613, or use 800-528-1234 & ask for international). They have airport pick you up & have a good breakfast. Cost approx. $46-$56. We do not recommend walking around the neighborhood after dark; travel by taxi. Four blocks straight up the street is the central market (Mercado Central), and one end of the Avenida Central, which becomes a pedestrian mall at Calle seis. This is a nice area to walk by day with access to the postoffice (great old colonial architecture) and the cultural plaza and gold museum. There are many places to eat.
