After we have climbed 100 meters (330 feet) or so, we enter a magnificent forest of huge trees with straight and thick-barked trunks growing in almost pure groves along the coast. This tree is the coast redwood, or Sequoia sempervirens, and some individuals are among the tallest known trees in the world.
