At maturity the green, cone-like inflorescence of Costus malorianus expands vertically and the bracts reflex exposing their inner or adaxial surfaces which have developed a glossy scarlet color upon are the contrasting white fruits. This display attracts frugivorous birds to disperse the seeds.
