The coati is a member of the raccoon family (Procyonidae), and like its North American counterparts, the raccoon, it is a curious, flexible, opportunistic omnivore.  This one had just eaten a 6" long cockroach I was posing for a photograph!  Now that's opportunistic.  Males like this one are solitary, but females and juveniles are social traveling in troops.
