Snakes are very common at La Selva.  Members of our field trip class have seen fer-de-lance, bushmaster (once), eyelash vipers, vine snakes, boa constrictors, coral snakes, coachwhip snakes, and this relatively common fellow, the hog-nosed viper.  Like the fer-de-lance these are quite well camouflaged, but this species remains fairly small and has a sluggish behavior.  Still you must be careful where you reach and step.
