Just over the summit of the mountains seen in the previous slide, the climate becomes again more severe. The air loses more of its moisture. The winter snows (which account for most of the precipitation) blow over the crest of the mountains and contribute ot the formation of glaciers, as this one on MT. Conness, over 4000 m elevation.
