A bit to the south along the same mountain range, just to the east of the big tree groves in Sequoia National Park, we find the most southerly glaciers in the United States on the Palisade Crest (4500 m). The trees in the foreground, the white bark pine, or Pinus albicaulis, are common in the high mountains of the Sierra Nevada.
